Delivering high quality care to our growing population of older people is undoubtedly one of the most significant challenges facing the NHS and those who work for it. The issue also affects those working in the independent sector, in the UK's care homes and hospices. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) represents more than 410,000 nurses and health care assistants, many of whom care for older people each and every day. In 2012, the RCN published a seminal report on the importance of staffing levels in settings caring for older people, and set key benchmarks that determine what good staffing looks like.
The RCN believes that older people deserve dignity, respect and a standard of care that constantly goes above and beyond. The RCN is delighted to sponsor this award this evening.
